Our Story
At Wise Roots Publishers, we believe that learning should be simple and beautiful. We develop original English and Afrikaans books and resources for homeschooling families. Here you will find books, stories, and resources that help children aged 4 to 14 learn and grow.
Our products are created from years of experience as a homeschooling mother, with the child and family in mind. The Alphabet Lane and Alfabetlaan reading series have already been tested by various homeschooling families, while other products have been carefully developed from practical experience.
Wise Roots Publishers was founded to meet the need of Afrikaans families for material created in Afrikaans and is now expanding into English as well.
Behind the Pages
I am Erika, a mother of seven, a homeschooling mom for more than 25 years, and a lifelong lover of stories and learning. I began homeschooling my two oldest children in the late 1990s, and since 2012 I have been teaching my younger five children at home. Now, in my sixties, I am still learning every day alongside them.
Years ago, when I was searching for a simple and effective Afrikaans reading program for my daughter, Anica, I could not find one that truly worked for us. So I wrote one for her. Other parents began asking for help, and I then wrote Kom Ons Lees Afrikaans, based on what I had designed for my daughter. Today it has been revised and is being newly published as Alfabetlaan.
